| Gillis–Mackenzie Excitement |
| Old world clan feuds, and romances,
and the day to day hustle and bustle have been put aside by two
well known musical families from the Miramichi. A new CD with their
first ever professional recording was released on Saturday December
the 2nd, at Saltwater Sounds. |
The Gillis Family:
Lynn Manderson, Barb and Gillian
Matchett have been performing in northern New Brunswick doing
community and charitable performances. Now with the help and
encouragement of Melanie Ross they have two numbers on the new
“From Our River “ CD. The first, the traditional
"Sarah", brought to the area two centuries ago by
the first fishermen via Newfoundland; the second the Keith Wilson,
"Song for Burnt Church".The first features a beautiful
use of acapella, and the second a wonderful melody and catchy
chorus, sure to be a toe taper for one and all.

Eric & Mike MacKenzie
The father and son team of Eric and Mike
MacKenzie seem to be everywhere lately, helping out various
community organizations up and down the river with their home
country folk sound. Eric is only 16 and has written his own
song, "Closest Place to Heaven" which will do any
Miramichier proud. Mike has written, "What is the Miramichi?"
With very special words and melody in the chorus, which sum
up the values of our people. It will stick in your soul long
after the song is finished and you will find yourself humming
along.
